Seeing Christ In The Small Things
1 Kings 19:11-12 (KJV):
"And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: and after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice."
It is interesting how, in our contemporary times, it is assumed that God is seemingly only found in the big things. So we find ourselves trying to impress Him with bigger programmes, bigger concerts, bigger billboards, and bigger social media accounts with massive followings. As good and commendable as these may be, Christ is usually found in the small things. If He were only to be found in the big, He should not have been born in a manager. He should have been born in a king's palace.
This scripture highlights today's lesson. Every day, the LORD passes each of us by, but do not make the mistake of thinking that He can be found only in the winds, earthquakes or fires. He is often found in a still small voice. In practical, daily terms, He can be found in that 'Thank you' said to the rude taxi driver; in the help rendered to that ungrateful church member; and in biting your tongue from repeating a slander against someone you consider needs to be called out.
Take a look today and ask God to show you Himself in the small crevices of your day.
